Other Therapy Modalities

In addition to EMDR Therapy, I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, somatic therapies, mindfulness and guided relaxation with imagery.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) helps clients learn to identify and change negative thought patterns. This enables clients to view challenging situations in a more positive way and be less disturbed by them. Developing more positive behavior patterns and coping skills is also focused upon.

Somatic Therapy

Somatic therapy uses mind-body exercises and other physical techniques to release pent-up tension that is negatively affecting one’s physical and emotional wellbeing. The goal is to provide relief from the stress and pain that prevents full engagement in life.

Mindfulness

Mindfulness exercises are ways of paying attention to the present moment, using techniques like meditation, breathing, and yoga. Clients learn to become more aware of their thoughts, feelings, and body sensations so that instead of being overwhelmed by them, they are better able to manage them.

Guided Imagery and Relaxation

Guided imagery is a relaxation technique that uses positive mental images to create feelings of peace and well-being. Imagining a safe, happy, or peaceful place, causes the body to release its “happy” hormones and increases one’s sense of well-being.

Guided relaxation includes teaching clients how to relax their body at will by using muscle tension-and-relaxation exercises. Clients learn the skills to do their own relaxation and imagery sessions at home.
